About Me

John's face

I'm a technology consultant and artist living in Brooklyn NY.

Although it may seem somewhat quaint to maintain a personal homepage in 2024, I have several reasons for doing so. For one thing, all the tech writers I most admire do it. For another, I think there are important and quickly evolving conversations around authorship and ownership: maintaining a personal site as the canonical origin of one's digital output is at the very least a bit of a "CYA" palliative.

I also believe in the existence and importance of Internet Ecology. The TL;DR of it is this: imagine an Internet without the massive, corporate repositories of information that we all know and "love". How would you find and access information? An internet composed of innumerable hyperlinked personal and open-source websites (like Wikipedia) is more resilient to the whims of the ruling classes. Especially when they facilitate the formation of human networks irrespective of any particular mediating technology.

I plan to use the blog section to document my day-to-day thoughts, as well as the technological development of this page itself. From that perspective, I'm using it to familiarize myself with React/Next.js. Eventually, I'd like for it to behave a bit more like a CMS, but for my current purposes, minimal and simple is best.
