A Short Walk in the McCullough Range$ _

It is difficult to gauge distance here

I set out on a walk on the first of December, 2024, starting at 35°59'44.406" N 115°0'1.542" W.

I sat on these for a while because I'd never photographed this kind landscape before and didn't know exactly what I was looking at. The mid-day constrast, bald skies, and level of high-frequency detail is challenging for such a small sensor. The meagre luxuriousness of the camera is definitely not doing the heavy lifting here.

Nevertheless, the strange shapes and radical lack of perspective without trees is very interesting to me. The length of the shadows for most of the afternoon was worth the visit alone: I wish I had had a companion to do some more pictures of people shadows without the postural limitations of holding a camera. Walking down a hill with the sun at your back might project it half a mile or so before dissolving.

Worth doing in medium or large format some day.
