Breakfast at the Wellhouse_
A few quick snaps of the springtime transition

Most first Thursdays, Joe from 718c organizes and informal "Breakfast Outside" meetup at 7:30am at the Wellhouse in Prospect Park. It has been nice to meet new people at a new time in a beloved place around a shared interest. These photos are from yesterday.
He and I talked a little bit about the Canon Elph he was using. No, he's not a Millenial, but came about the camera under somewhat sad and unexpected circumstances: a neighbor had passed suddenly with no immediate relatives to manage their possessions. (Note to self: get on that living will.)
I happened to have brought my Olympus TG-5, which I said I had gotten specifically to take bikepacking. He seemed especially interested in the "drop-proof" aspect of it, whereas I am more concerned about water and dust.
It was nice to shoot with it again after some time away. The "translation" from what you see to the digital images it puts out is quite a bit like my experience with 35mm film from a middle-of-the-road camera like the Canonet. I would say that later iterations of the Canonet have better optics in certain ways, but it really is apples to oranges: the TG is a 4x zoom and macro, with far more complicated optics to fit it into such a tiny, waterproof enclosure. I mean very generally that there is a nice bit of abstraction via the optics and the sensor (chromatic abberation, color rendition, noise, etc.) that feel familiar to my creative process rooted in the fussiness of film. There's more to "do" to translate what you see into what you get. Fun and nice for fine art, not so good for more service-oriented photography, where you want a consistent baseline that allows you to optimize your workflow to save time and increase throughput.
Speaking of throughput, I'm happy to be in a bit of a rhythm with these posts. I think future me will thank present me to have these modest, quotidien accomplishments to look back on.
